Hobo 33 [Wrap Up + Results]

October 14, 2011 in News, Qualifiers, Tournament Info

Texas was home to the South Regional Qualifier for Apex 2012.  Players from all over Texas came to the event to support the community and to earn seeding points, and a possible stipend, to Apex 2012.  In the end only one was the winner and that was Texas Snake Ultimate Razer.  The event, however, did not come without its share of upsets and great matches. Ran by two of the nation’s best tournament hosts, Xyro and Sync, the event drew a crowd of over sixty players looking to make their mark in the Apex 2012 season.  Tri-states own, Vinnie, entered the tournament with hopes to catching up to become top seed for Apex 2012.  He ended his weekend at third in singles and fifth in doubles teaming with top Toon Link player Jerm. As the event went on, upsets were made in the hands of K Prime taking out Jerm and, even two-stocking, Trela, a person he has never beaten, finishing fifth overall taking home the title of underdog hero for this event.  Not without competition was ASLM taking fifth as well beating Leaf, Illmatic, even Poltergust before falling to hard-working Denti in round seven of losers.  Speaking of the best Yoshi in the world, he surprised everyone, including myself, during his play against former tri-state ranked P-wii.  He beat the experienced player taking seventh overall. In doubles, P-Wii and PJ shocked everyone.  They began their run in the second round taking out Jnig and Adam.  From there they would

Smash t’ill U Crash 2: [Wrap Up + Results]

October 14, 2011 in News, Qualifiers

Smash t’ill U Crash 2 concludes the Canadian qualifier for the Road to Apex series. The tournament, which was a Brawl and Melee event, was one of the largest EC Canada tournaments and the sequel to a previously successful tournament. The tournament was held on one of the higher floors in the venue. One of the walls was made entirely of glass, giving the players an excellent view of the city below. There were any setups, a livestream, and the TO’s handled the event very professionally. There weren’t any major complaints about seeding, so the tournament was run smoothly. Mew2King, one of the best players in the US, traveled to STYC2 to compete in both singles and doubles.  He ended up stealing the show, taking first place in both singles and doubles bracket for Melee. There were fantastic sets played between M2K, Unknown, BAM, and KirbyKaze that will be uploaded to YouTube in the future for your viewing pleasure. One exciting match that transpired during Brawl singles was a match between Gazon (Snake) and Guard (Fox). The match came down to third match last stock, with Guard almost losing to Gazon in the losers bracket. Gazon ended up placing 9th overall at the tournament. Stroumbert also played almost all falcon at the tournament and still received an impressive 5th place in singles. Players were very impressed by the attendance level of this tournament. Over 100 player gathered for the event, which is something that Montreal attendants are not used to
